Viking Octantis is currently making its maiden voyage to South America

Viking officially took delivery of Viking Octantis on December 22, 2021, which embarked on its maiden voyage from the Vard de Fincantieri shipyard in Søviknes, Norway, to South America. Here the ship will welcome its first guests and sail to Antarctica.

Viking Octantis was designed by Richard Riviere, founding director of Rottet Studio, and London-based interior design company SMC Design.

“Our guests asked us to take our award-winning river and ocean trips to take them further, and that’s exactly what we did,” said Torstein Hagen, President of Viking. “By leveraging our long history of destination-oriented travel, enrichment and innovative ship design, we are now perfecting expedition travel and offering curious travelers the opportunity to visit some of the world’s most pristine destinations. in the most responsible way possible. ”

The new ship can accommodate 378 guests and is the first of two Viking ships that will visit the Arctic and Antarctica. The second identical sister ship, the Viking Polaris, will join the fleet in August 2022. The cruise line will offer routes to Antarctica, the Great Lakes of North America and the Arctic.

“With the arrival of Viking Octantis, Viking is now exploring all seven continents, and we look forward to welcoming its first guests on board in the coming weeks,” said Hagen.

Viking Octantis’ christening ceremony will take place in April 2022 in New York City in the presence of Norwegian explorer and educator Liv Arnesen as godmother.
