Terrifying moment of tourists being chased by angry hippo on speedboat safari in Kenya

THIS terrifying footage shows the moment a group of tourists took a boat to search for hippos – only to end up being chased by one of the huge animals.

The stunning video shows the massive animal gliding through the water in the speedboat’s wake, mostly underwater, but sometimes lifting its head to breathe as it continues to follow the boat.

A group of tourists filmed the nerve-wracking encounter as they approached the beast.

The hippo had taken the chase after the boat strayed in its waters – almost closing in on the frightened tourists.

Spooky footage shows the massive beast dropping its head underwater from a distance, but within seconds the giant resurfaces a few feet from the boat.

The shocking incident took place on Friday morning on Lake Victoria in Kenya.

Hippos can be up to five meters long and weigh 235 stones.

They are considered the deadliest land mammal in the world, killing up to 500 people a year in Africa.

Hippos are considered one of the most dangerous animals on the African continent.

On average, they are responsible for the death of around 500 humans each year.

Despite being herbivorous, the beasts will kill all intruders in their territory.

Hippos can be up to five meters long and weigh up to 1,500 kg.

Huge animals can live up to 50 years and there are believed to be around 130,000 in the wild.

In October, a video emerged showing the painful moment of a the hippo dragged a little boy when he died in Lake Victoria.

The footage shows the boy submerged in the water as locals screamed and pelted the animal with stones.

The boy, who has not been named, was playing near the shore in Mbita, Kenya.

The animal then released the youngster, but he died of his injuries.

The video, which was filmed on September 16, shows locals rushing to the water’s edge.
