A teenage girl died and three others needed medical attention after a speedboat overturned at a Devon marina.
Emergency services were called to Brixham port in Torbay, amid reports that a ship carrying a father, daughter and two of his friends had capsized.
The rescue operation saw the deployment of lifeboats, coastguard teams and a helicopter as well as specialized divers.
Mark Criddle, a member of the RNLI team in Torbay, said crews arrived at the scene and found a five-meter speedboat upside down with a girl trapped in it.
He said: “We located the girl and brought her aboard the lifeboat, where she immediately received first aid from a doctor and a paramedic who were part of the lifeboat crew. . ”
Criddle said the other three people on the boat were rescued by other boats in the harbor.
He said: “We brought the girl back to the shore where she was placed in the care of paramedics who took her to the hospital.
“The other three people on board the overturned speedboat were also taken to hospital after being treated at the rescue station.”
The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed, although authorities have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed.
Police confirmed investigations into the tragedy were ongoing and called witnesses to contact.
A spokesperson said: “We ask anyone who was in the area at the time, either on the water or walking along the cliffs or the seashore and having witnessed the incident, call us on 101 and quote log number 326 05/02/2015. ”
