Step into luxury in October on the Mark Hotel sailboat

The Mark Hotel bills itself as “New York’s most daringly lavish hotel”. How does he achieve this high standard?

With a 70 foot sailboat.

Fat? You bet.

The Mark Hotel The sailboat is a 70 foot vessel built in 1921 by Nathanael Herreshoff, a yacht design legend who dominated the field for over seventy-five years. His innovative designs produced a succession of undefeated America’s Cup yachts between 1893 and 1920.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to know your jackline from your jigger mat to enjoy this tour. Captains Owen Wellison and James Brooks will take care of the heavy lifting as you enjoy the onset of fall and the stunning change of colors on a three-hour trip down the Hudson River from Manhattan.

The Mark Sailboat fall schedule will be available from October 1 to 19 for 3-hour cruises, scheduled twice a day at lunchtime or late afternoon. The trip is completed with the Mark Hotel’s cashmere throws and an autumn-inspired menu by Mark Hotel’s Michelin-starred chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

The interior of the sailboat was designed to be a floating extension of the Mark Hotel aesthetic designed by legendary French designer Jacques Grange, whose iconic black and white stripes, synonymous with the hotel lobby, adorn the elegant rooms on the bridge.

How’s that for “boldly lavish?” “

In addition to the fiery oranges and reds of the leaves, breathtaking views of the city skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, as well as other iconic New York City landmarks will be seen during the trip.

The sailboat is available on private charter for customers of the Mark Hotel.

If you find this excursion too adventurous, maybe a picnic in Central Park by bike is more suitable for you.

Guests of the Mark Hotel can enjoy a ‘packed lunch’ created by Vongerichten. The gourmet picnic basket includes all the essentials: a blanket, cutlery, condiments and a specially designed bottle cooler. As a finishing touch, The Mark’s award-winning head concierge, Isabelle Hogan, curated an illustrated bike map to help guests navigate Central Park.

Arrive at the park in style on one of the property’s stylish custom bikes. Manufactured by Republic Bike, the bikes incorporate elements of the hotel’s whimsical design by Grange, including a striped chain guard and monogrammed bells. Mark bikes come complete with iconic “MARK” license plates, helmets and baskets.

If the weather doesn’t lend itself to a picnic or a sail, thanks to its location on the Upper East Side at the corner of Madison Avenue and 77th Street, the Mark Hotel is located within 1.6 km from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum and the Frick Collection, making it an ideal headquarters for exploring the world’s greatest art.

Or maybe go shopping. Hotel Mark’s unprecedented list of amenities includes 24/7 access for guests to Bergdorf Goodman shopping.

For the fall escape of your dreams in New York, indulge yourself. Be bold. Live generously. Take advantage of the Mark hotel.
