Wonder Of The Seas maiden voyage slated for March 2022
The world’s largest cruise ship was delivered to Royal Caribbean last week. The gargantuan ship is currently in Marseille where it will receive the final details before crossing the Atlantic for its inaugural cruise.
The new ship, named Wonder of the Seas, is the fifth of six Oasis-class ships in the Royal Caribbeans fleet. The sixth, although currently unnamed, has been ordered and is expected to make its maiden voyage in 2024
The 236,000 tonnes Wonder was due to be completed and delivered in 2021, but shipyard closures due to the pandemic delayed its unveiling until March 2022. In addition to manufacturing delays, wonders home port was changed at the last minute.
The ship was originally scheduled to call in Shanghai, becoming the first Oasis-class cruise liner to have a home port in Asia. But promising projections for the industry in America and Europe, combined with heavy restrictions in Asia, prompted Royal Caribbean to locate in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It’s unclear whether he can be transferred to Shanghai in the future, but plans are well under way for his first trip to the Caribbean in March.
The giant’s intimidating specifications are an indicator of its impressive appearance at sea. At 362 meters in length and 66 meters in diameter, it is longer than three football fields. At full capacity, 6,800 passengers will fill its cabins, of which there are 100 more than the current largest ship, Symphony of the Seas. 2,400 other corps will be on board as a crew.
One of the most distinctive features of the new model is the addition of a quarter eight on board. Quarters are designated areas of the ship, segmented for ease of navigation.
The Suite district will be a private, septic space for the guests of the suite. According to the Royal Caribbean blog;
âThe new neighborhood offers a private experience like no other, with world-class dining, a new sun terrace for stunning ocean views, a private lounge and restaurant and much more. Plus, loved ones can make this the getaway of a lifetime when they book the expansive and beloved Ultimate Family Suite.
As with other Royal Caribbean ships, it will offer a wide selection of bars, restaurants, entertainment venues and swimming pools.
Reservations are already open for its first series of cruises. It will leave Fort Lauderdale in March 2022 for its Caribbean routes, with a selection of seven-day itineraries available.
After the spring season, it will replace Allure of the Seas in Europe, for its Mediterranean route. According to the company, anyone who has previously booked on Allure of the Seas will automatically transfer to Wonder without further modification of their itinerary.
Wonder of the seas has successfully completed her sea trials, and is currently in Marseille, France, receiving final details ahead of her Atlantic crossing.
The ship was built in Saint-Naizaire, France, at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard.
