The delivery of “Valiant Lady” took place on July 2, 2021 and “Resilient Lady” was launched on July 3, 2021 in Sestri Ponente shipyard (Genoa), respectively the second and third of four ships that Virgin Voyages (new cruise operator and a brand part of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin group), has ordered Fincantieri.
“Valiant Lady†and “Resilient Ladyâ€, as well as their sister ship “Scarlet Lady†delivered last year, weigh around 110,000 gross tons, are 278 meters long and 38 wide. Listed by Lloyd’s Register EMEA, Valiant Lady is with 4 DDGG (2 Wärtsilä 8L46F + 2 Wärtsilä 12V 46F for 40,000 kW totaling one power).
This new class of ships has more than 1,400 guest cabins designed to accommodate more than 2,770 passengers, accompanied by 1,160 crew on board to provide the famous Virgin service. The quality of life on board is guaranteed by the “comfort class†certification, attesting to the minimum levels of noise and vibrations, as well as by the extensive use of home automation.
Thanks to this, by installing an application on their smartphones, customers can manage a wide range of cabin functions (air conditioning, lighting, opening and closing of blinds, music and television). This class of ships is distinguished by the design, as well as by the special attention paid to energy recovery, with state-of-the-art equipment alternative technologies that reduce the overall environmental impact of the ship.
For example, the ships are fitted with a power generation system of around 1 MW, which uses waste heat from the diesel engine. In addition to a washing system for the management of sulfur dioxide waste, the units are also equipped with a catalytic converter, which reduces nitrogen oxides. They are fully equipped with led lights to reduce energy consumption, while the hydrodynamic design of the hull offers excellent performance with consequent fuel economy. The third ship, Resilient Lady, will be delivered in 2022 while the still unnamed fourth unit is expected to be delivered to Virgin Voyages in 2023.
