Texas cruise crews are in for a treat, Norwegian Cruise Lines has chosen Galveston to debut the new star of its fleet.

Norwegian Prima’s maiden voyage will depart the Texas coast in the summer of 2022. Galveston, which is about four hours from San Antonio, will continue to serve as the home port for the winter seasons 2023 and 2024, according to the company’s press release.

Norwegian raves about its new ship, claiming it benefits from upgrades that elevate its current fleet. Experiences include Tony-nominated musicals, a multi-level nightclub that rivals Vegas, a dry slide with a 10-story plunge, a three-level race track, and a list of firsts at sea.

The cruise line, with over 54 years of sailing experience, calls it “the most requested ship of all time.”

“We don’t just improve the guest experience, we give it an adrenaline rush and multisensory overload,” said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line. “When we launched Norwegian Prima, we wanted to go above and beyond, offering our customers larger spaces, high service, thoughtful design and a variety of unforgettable experiences, and this latest unveiling of our entertainment lineup and Activities on board are going to have the mind-boggling factor they’ve aspired to in a much anticipated cruise vacation.

On board, Prima’s 3,215 guests will be able to watch “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical”, participate in live-action game shows such as “The Price is Right” and “Supermarket Sweep” which will be hosted in the transformational theater that transforms into a nightclub full of energy. There’s also a three-level go-kart racing track, Topgolf Swing Suite simulator, and The Drop, a 10-story free-fall slide.

Prima’s first year of navigation will be programmed with “bucket-list” itineraries. Once the inaugural year is over, Prima will be the only ship to offer a 7-day vacation from Galveston to the Caribbean, the statement said. Norwegian’s reservation books are open and travelers can start planning their trips online.
