Cigarette Racing and Mercedes-Benz are teaming up again to create a custom outboard. This year’s watercraft seems to be inspired by the G-Class SUV based on the new teaser associated with it. A full reveal takes place at the Miami Boat Show on Thursday, February 13.
This year’s boat has the classic Cigarette Racing personal watercraft silhouette with a long nose and short tail section. It is not the type of boat that is geared towards speed and it is not the kind of thing you would take on a long trip. A roof, however, offers some protection against the elements.
Mercedes and Cigarette Racing have been working together on these special boats since 2007. Last year’s creation was a 41-foot outboard modeled after the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door. Power came from four Mercury Racing 400R outboards producing a total of 1,600 horsepower (1,193 kilowatts) that delivered a top speed of 83 miles per hour (134 kilometers per hour). The craft also featured many carbon fiber parts, including the deck, roof, and rudder. It could carry up to 20 people.
Cigarette Racing’s last G-Class inspired project dates back to 2013. It used the 42ft Huntress as a starting point. It contained five Mercury Racing Verado 350SCi engines with a total output of 1,750 hp (1,305 kW) allowing a top speed of 125 km / h. There was a small cabin with a kitchen and a day bed.
