Anticipation grows for Norwegian Cruise Line’s next ship New norwegian prima cruise ship. And the cruise line has now revealed that global pop superstar Katy Perry will be the ship’s godmother.
Perry will not only christen the new ship, but will also perform at a christening ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland on August 27, 2022. This will be the first cruise ship christening in the Icelandic capital.
“We are thrilled to welcome Katy Perry, a one-of-a-kind entertainer and global sensation, as Norwegian Prima’s Patron,” said Harry Sommer, president and CEO of NCL. “We are incredibly proud to have her part of the Norwegian Cruise Line family and we look forward to launching our beautiful, innovative ship with her in August.”
Perry will play an important role in the traditional element of the ship’s christening by officiating the breaking of the champagne bottle at the bow of the ship to bestow good fortune on the ship and its travelers. The pop superstar will also perform on stage before Norway’s Prima begin their inaugural season from Iceland.

Every morning you wake up you discover an amazing new sight,” said Katy Perry. “I love being able to christen her with my good vibes, and I’m so excited that this new, beautiful, high-end, high-tech vessel will set sail and provide a unique vacation for so many families.
The Norwegian Cruise Line ship will arrive in Reykjavik for the first time after making its maiden voyage from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on August 17, 2022. This maiden voyage includes stops in Brussels in Belgium, Bergen and Geiranger in Norway , and Akureyri and Isafjordur in Iceland. .

norwegian prima is the first of six Prima Class ships and will offer maiden voyages to Northern Europe from Southampton, England; Amsterdam; and Reykjavík, Iceland, from August 2022.
The ship will also offer Bermuda sailings from New York beginning October 6, 2022, then Caribbean trips from Galveston, Texas and Miami, Florida, starting Oct. 27.
norwegian prima is a new design and takes NCL into a new era of cruising. The ship is currently in the final stages of fitting out by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. Prima is 142,500 gross tons and has a capacity of 3,215 people based on double occupancy.
