Nieuw Statendam resumes its cruises
The Pinnacle-class vessel has restarted service for the first time since the industry-wide hiatus began in 2020. Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam left Fort Lauderdale, Florida and became the fifth ship in the fleet to return to sea.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Port Everglades terminal to officially open boarding. When the guests arrived on board, the crew members extended a warm welcome by waving flags.
Customers now enjoy a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise that includes a stopover at Nassau in the Bahamas, Ocho Rios and Port Royal, Jamaica; and Half Moon Cay, Holland America Line’s private island in the Bahamas.
âToday is another important step in our return to service, with Nieuw Statendam start of operation just in time for Thanksgiving, and we have a lot to be thankful for this year of getting back to the water â, said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. âToday is a big day for Holland America Line, and our team members look forward to welcoming guests on board. “

Nieuw Statendam will continue to sail from the port until April 2022 on a range of Caribbean cruises from seven to 11 days. The cruise line also offers even longer collectible trips, back-to-back trips that provide a more cultural experience and in-depth exploration.
Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale is one of the busiest cruise ports in the United States and, in early November, had its busiest day since cruise lines suspended operations, with a total of six ships in Harbor. Holland America Line has operated ships out of Port Everglades since 1990, and each ship contributes directly to the local economy for $ 364,000.
As for the cruise line’s return to service plan, a total of five ships are now back in operation. Nieuw Statendam follow the new Rotterdam cruise ship, which has just started its inaugural season in the Caribbean port. Koningsdam, Eurodam, and Nieuw Amsterdam are also currently sailing with guests.
