The first ship of luxury cruise line Explora Journeys will offer Ocean Terrace suites described as “homes at sea” – and no single-use plastic – when it debuts in 2023. Jenny Southan reports
A sub-brand of MSC Cruises, Explora Travels unveiled the design of its Ocean Terrace Suites on its first cruise ship, Explore Iahead of her maiden voyage in May 2023.
Apparently, Explora Journeys was born out of a “long-held vision” of the founders, the Aponte Vagos, the family that owns MSC Cruises.A statement says the family’s 300-year nautical heritage, coupled with their “innate understanding of luxury”, has allowed them to “carefully take care” of the design of suites, penthouses and onboard residences.
Each of the ship’s 461 beachfront suites, penthouses and residences will feature its own private terrace (7-11m²), which creates an extension of the living space with daybeds and an open-air dining area. air. The design of each suite has been developed in collaboration with De Jorio Luxury and Yachts projects and London-based architecture and interior design studio NenMar.
The suites will range in size from 35 m² (in the Ocean Terrace category) to 280 m² for the owner’s residence, and will all be equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows for maximum natural light.
Other features include a walk-in closet with a seated dressing table and a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer; heated floors in the bathrooms; binoculars; bedside wireless charging; a personal minibar restocked according to guest preferences; espresso machines with biodegradable pods; a kettle and a teapot; a refillable water bottle; and 24-hour customer service.

Itineraries include the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, UK, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, US East Coast, Caribbean, South America and Hawaii. The cruises begin with six-night voyages and end with an epic 44-night grand voyage to Northern Europe.
