During this tour, led by Matthieu Riou, American Wines and Spirits Director of Grain de Sail, small groups of just ten people will be able to explore the ship, enjoy a tasting on deck and meet this recently completed crew. the maiden voyage. On board, passengers will experience the modern features of this one-of-a-kind cargo sailboat. This 80-foot-long schooner runs solely on wind power like the sailboats of yesteryear, but is equipped with the most technologically advanced navigation systems.

Mini wind turbines, solar panels and hydrogenators provide all the electricity needed. Modern materials like aluminum improve the performance and durability of the boat. Below deck, the wines are stored in a hold with stabilization of temperature and humidity. These conditions make it the first specially designed floating wine cellar in the world!

After a visit to New York, Sail’s cargo ship Grain will set sail for Central America. There, the ship will collect coffee and cocoa before returning to France. This round trip loop will be repeated twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. While in New York, the boat will be docked at the ONE15 Marina in Brooklyn.

Grain de Sail was founded by Olivier Barreau in 2010. Barreau wanted to find a way to efficiently transport goods by sail. He started with a coffee roasting business in 2013 which eventually grew into a chocolate factory three years later. In 2018, it was finally time to start building the sailboat of his dreams.
