LONG BEACH, CA – A speedboat racer died after being thrown from his ship at around 110 mph on Sunday, The Long Beach Post reported. The man was a competitor in the Long Beach Sprint Nationals, which have been held in Long Beach for 75 years.
The driver, who has not been named, collided with another boat before his rider repeatedly rolled over and thrown him off, Ross Wallach, president of the Southern California Speedboat Club, told the Long Beach Post . The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The race was halted early on the day it ended Sunday as authorities opened an investigation into the crash.
