Carnival Liberty was turned down at another cruise port during his eight-day Caribbean itinerary. The Carnival cruise ship was not permitted to make a scheduled visit to Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands on January 7 due to concerns about COVID.
Carnival cruise ship denied to Grand Turk
The Conquest-class ship has not had much luck with the ports of call recently as it was refused at another cruise port during the current navigation. Carnival Liberty had to arrive at Grand Turk Cruise Terminal Friday morning as part of an eight day trip to the Caribbean.
At the time, the Carnival Cruise Line ambassador responded to a passenger on board, “Thanks for letting me know, yes I know things are going on with the port and I hope they will allow the ship to enter.” I know the discussions are still going on.
It was decided by the local Turks and Caicos Islands Department of Health, after reviewing the details submitted by the vessel, not to allow guests to disembark from the vessel and to deny entry to the vessel in the best interests of public health.
Cruise passengers must submit the number of cases on board at each port before going there. According to an announcement by the ship’s captain on January 5, there were cases of COVID among the crew, no specific figures have been released.
According to guests aboard the current ship, there is a possibility that the ship may be cleared for a stopover in Nassau, Bahamas. Celebrity summit was refused to call in Nassau January 7, then Carnival Liberty will be accepted or not remains to be seen.
So far only one port of call
Carnival Liberty was due to visit St. Kitts on January 5 but was refused entry by local authorities. Instead, the ship spent the day at sea followed by another day at sea before the port was canceled at Grand Turk. The trip was also affected by the cancellation of San Juan due to new entry requirements imposed by local authorities and the replacement of Saint Martin with Antigua.
Customers will no doubt be disappointed with just one stopover so far and six days at sea. Still, in a recent letter sent to all guests on booked crossings there was a warning that there could be port cancellations during a trip due to the current situation.
Carnival said in the letter, “We want you to know that we may be faced with a decision by the local authorities of a destination to limit or prohibit the vessel from entering the port. Some destinations have limited medical resources and focus on managing their own local response to the variant. “
The cruise line continues to say “ “If it becomes necessary to cancel a port, we will do our best to find an alternative destination. However, if we fail to do so, there will be no compensation for a missed port, beyond a refund of any pre-purchased Carnival shore excursion â€.
Carnival Liberty was also refused in Bonaire and Aruba on a Caribbean cruise that departed PortMiami, Florida on December 18, 2021. The ship’s next scheduled cruise will depart Miami on January 9, a six-day trip to the Eastern Caribbean with stops at Princess Cays, Grand Turk and Amber Cove.
The Carnival cruise ship was the first in the fleet to return to Grand Turk on December 15, marking a return for the cruise line for the first time since the industry-wide hiatus in spring 2020.
