In what would be the first of its kind, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) rushed into an organized raid on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai and arrested a dozen people, including the son from a leading Bollywood actor. .
The action – which shocked Mumbaikars and shook wealthy crowds – began on Saturday afternoon, still continuing with the FIR registration process underway.
NCB area director Sameer Wankhede, who led the raid along with a team of officials, declined to comment on the developments while investigations are ongoing.
Officials said a few days ago they were made aware of the proposed rave party aboard a cruise ship bound for a Mumbai-Goa trip, departing from the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal.
To avoid detection, BCN detectives signed up for this cruise as regular passengers and soon discovered that some of their co-passengers were using drugs.
Then the BCN launched its full-scale raid, arrested at least a dozen passengers and seized various drugs of varying amounts.
The ship was ordered to turn around and return to the ICT at Ballard Pier where the detained passengers were unloaded with their luggage.
A full search of their property as well as the cruise ship is underway, while the detainees have been sent for a medical examination.
